The Peppermill in Reno is an iconic resort and casino location in the heart of the Biggest Little City in the World. The objective for the latest revitalization of the resort was to supplement the luxurious room accommodations with the creation of comfortable and enticing areas around the casino and significantly expand and enhance the guest experience. One project spoke to the Peppermill vision.
This ambitious project was a $3.5 million renovation of the race and sportsbook intended to make a big impression and create an immersive environment that encouraged their clientele to gamble in a relaxed setting. The centerpiece was to be the largest and highest resolution screen in the country to give the best sports experience possible from which to watch your favorite NBA, NHL, MLB, NFL, NCAA games, and horse races. The system needed to be customized to air up to 30 different games and events at once.
This high-tech sports theater had to be a seamless display 110 ft. wide by 12 ft. tall screen that displays up to 4k image capabilities when available. Screen selection, installation, and alignment was critical to the success of the project. Installation time and disruption to the casino was to be kept to a minimum. The area needed to include (60) comfortable “Box Seat” carrels with 24-inch touchscreen HDTVs, perfect for catching up on race, sports, odds, and more. There would also be (8) 10’ x 6’ HDTVs located on the back wall.
The integrator was KniTec, one of the most respected hospitality design and integration firms in the country. As the centerpiece of the sports book they designed a seamless curved direct view LED wall incorporating 70 x 6 Samsung IF direct view LED panels. The design featured an aggressive double concave curve at 23° at the extremes of the display area. Getting all the screens aligned was a challenge with so many tiles, so they chose The PDS team with their direct view LED mount specifically designed to handle the Samsung IF displays. The xyz alignment capability that the mount offers made this process of setup less time-consuming. The mounts included a fixed floor stand with wall anchor brackets to hold it the huge display securely to the wall.
The PDS team conducted a pre-project on-site walkthrough to ensure that there would be minimal issues with installation. The installation took 10 days and was done by in-house team at Peppermill. They commented that “this was a record installation time for a wall of this size because the PDS mounting solution came straight from the box and we were able to put it on the wall without any assembly and x, y, z alignment was a breeze.”
The end result? The Peppermill Reno project was Voted Best Race and Sports Book by Casino Player Magazine!
